On January 4th, Miles Petroleum, Inc. purchased the fuel department of B&W Co-op which includes the loaned and leased pumps and tanks at customer locations, the fuel trucks and the customer list. We have also agreed to purchase the bulk plant on Ransom Road and M-46. The soil samples are being done now and we want to do some work on the loading rack area before we take over the bulk plant.
We're excited about the acquisition! It fits well with the business that Miles Petroleum, Inc. already has. This now gives us bulk plants in Breckenridge, Hemlock, and St. Charles, with over 350,000 gallons of storage. We have committed 4 single-axle fuel trucks to work on the daily routes and the 4,000-gallon truck to work exclusively on commercial accounts. We have also dedicated one truck to delivering only bulk oil and a box truck for delivering drums.
Our staff and drivers are the greatest assets that we have to share with our customers. We're proud of the service that our employees provide. Every one of our employees are dedicated to taking care of our customers and doing what it takes to get the job done right.
Our market area spans from Saginaw south to Birch Run, to Chesaning, west to Carson City, north to Edmore, Shepherd and Mt. Pleasant, east to Midland and Bay City. Approximately 50% of our business is agricultural, 30% is commercial and 20% home heating. Because of this, most of our programs are geared toward the farming community, ie: 6-month farm credit plan, spring/fall oil sale and locked in fuel prices for the spring and fall months.
We have tried hard to specialize in what we feel we do best, delivering and service fuels, propane, and oils. We also sell and service equipment for handling these products, including Baldwin filters. It's a good bet that if it doesn't have anything to do with an engine or heating. We don't handle it.
